How Are Custom Policies Different?

If your vehicle is not typical, then your insurance policy should not be typical. If your vehicle is custom, then your insurance should also be custom. It’s that simple. But, if you really want our two cents, you’ve come to the right page for it.

We have a drawer full of insurers that cover custom vehicles, but of course we've got our favorites, depending on your car characteristics.
The FULLEST policy alive today, for a truly classic or custom vehicle, is undoubtedly our Hagerty program. But, there are potential financial drawbacks. You can’t pay monthly. You have to pay up front the entire year but they do give Executive Edge a GREAT deal for our customers. With that said, the next best program alive is Safeco. It’s a darn good policy AND they do offer a payment plan.

I will talk a little about Hagerty first:

Hagerty ® is made up of people just like you — people who own collector vehicles, closely follow the market, know the history of the auto industry, have experienced the joys and challenges of restoration and attend every car event they can get to.
Their policy is full of bells and whistles you wont find anywhere else such as:
Spare Parts coverage, Automobilia (hood ornaments, license plates, model cars, gas pumps displays, diner memorabilia), business use (meaning, photo shoots, movies/commercials, weddings) vehicles under construction (you know because your custom vehicles isn't always in one piece). You also can choose to have trip interruption coverage (nothing like being 200 miles from home and have ol Betty decide she needs a slightly extended R&R). You can even get a bond to protect you against a loss due to reissuance of a duplicate title.

About the Safeco policy:

The Safeco policy is very much like the typical auto policy except that you have an AGREED VALUE. If you and Safeco agree to insure it for $20,000, that is what you get if it is totaled. And, like Hagerty, they cover your tools. It doesn't have as many goodies as the Hagerty policy but its got a few. It really is more for the classic car than the custom car.

The classic car doesn't always HAVE to be on its own policy, but its usually best.

As mentioned, we have many insurers who can cover your custom vehicles. Depending on your customization, we may suggest one company over the other. If your truck is lifted, we know who’s got the better tolerance AND price for it. If you race your car, we know where NOT to try to insure it. Just tell us about it and we will make sure you get what you need.

Modern Insurance For Your Classic Car

It takes more than age to make it a classic. A collector car isn’t just a way to get around. It’s an investment that will continue to appreciate in coming years.

Not all classic or antique cars are used the same, so Executive Edge Insurance will work with you to select the appropriate policy to accommodate coverage needs, miles driven, vehicle age, and vehicle modifications to make sure you have the best policy to meet your needs. Here are some features you should look for when shopping for classic car insurance:

  • Agreed Value: This means the provider will pay you the full (agreed to) amount in the event of a covered total loss, less any applicable deductible.  This type of coverage is much better than “actual cash value” or “stated value” that you may get with some companies.

  • Low Rates: Why pay full-time insurance when you drive your collector car only part-time.

  • Coverage Options: Not all collector cars are the same, so we can work with you to determine the right amount of coverage to meet your specific needs.

  • Generous Mileage: You’re proud of your collector car, so drive it. Not all insurance companies have a mileage limit, but most collector cars should be driven less than 5,000 annual miles to maintain their value.

  • Roadside Assistance:  Whether you’re down the street or on a classic rally through the mountains, you’ll want to find coverage that will flatbed your car to the closest qualified repair facility.
